You no longer need to stop at petrol stations to buy a Slovak vignette. In 2015 the new toll system was introduced in Slovakia, so getting a vignette is now straightforward and convenient. You can buy your electronic vignette online without going out. Only a device with an internet connection and valid means of payment are necessary.

There are four types of Slovak e-vignettes, which depend on the validity period. So you can pick a vignette for 10 days, 30 days, 365 days, or an annual one.

The electronic vignette can be obtained online or in the self-service vending machines, so you can prepare earlier without worrying about your drive. You don’t need to have stickers on your windscreen anymore and wait in long lines. Just complete the electronic form, enter your registration number, and cover the fee.

When you purchase your e-vignette, the toll system will register your vehicle’s details. It is very convenient as everything is done automatically, thanks to the cameras on the motorways and expressways. They will record your license plate, which will then be checked in the system.

Who needs a vignette in Slovakia?

• Vehicles weighing less than 3.5 tons: two-track vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons or two-track vehicles of category M1, regardless of total technically permissible weight.
• Vehicle assembly that weighs less than 3.5 tons: 3.5-ton two-track vehicle combination (vehicle + towed vehicle).
• Vehicle assembly weighing more than 3.5 tons: when the maximum technically permissible total weight of the two-track vehicle combination (vehicle + towed vehicle, etc.) consisting of M1 or N2 categories, and O1 or O2 towed vehicle is heavier than 3.5 tons.

Vignette types

It is possible to purchase a Slovak electronic vignette for motorways and expressways online. You can pick one of the following types:

• An electronic vignette for 10 days: it is valid for 10 days from the date stated in the form.
• An electronic vignette for 30 days is effective for 30 days from the date in the form.
• An electronic vignette for 365 days: with a 365-day validity period.
• An annual electronic vignette: valid for one year from the 1st of January of the given calendar year or from the purchase date until the 31st of January of the following year.

Note that the 10-day and 30-day vignettes bought in December would be valid until the end of the validity period in January of the following year.

How to buy a digital vignette for Slovakia?

You can buy a digital vignette online or in the self-service vending machines. The process won’t take a lot of time. We will immediately register your license plate number in the Slovak toll system as an independent service provider. Only these simple steps are necessary to obtain an electronic vignette:

1. Pick an e-vignette type. Then, enter the vehicle category and registration number.
2. Cover the fee. You can pick one of the available payment methods and pay online.
3. Obtain your e-vignette via email and download it. Now your e-vignette is valid, and you can start your journey.

Penalties

The monitoring system checks the vehicle’s license plates, and then it is compared with the information on the vignette. Driving without an active vignette is automatically reported to the central system.

You can be stopped by the highway police or receive information about the penalty if you don’t have a vignette. The fine could cost 150 Euro, so be careful.

Slovak road operator mobile patrols monitor the vignettes as well. What is more, the price of the e-vignette includes highway patrol assistance, such as helping with repairs, towing, or assistance when you run out of fuel.
